Today was the day of hospital admittance. Because of the anticipation leading up to today, I didn't sleep well at all. I went to bed last night around 11:30 p.m. and woke up at 3 a.m. Didn't fall back asleep until 6 a.m. and got another hour of sleep. I know some of you are probably thinking, oh just wait til baby comes, and you won't be getting any sleep at all. I get it, I get it. But I was really hoping to get one last good night's rest before being admitted. Didn't work out the way I planned.
We came into the hospital around 10:30 after a good breakfast with our friends, Michael and Sarah (and their two girls) from California. We were admitted, and we met our first nurse Barbara. She is wonderful, and Jaris and I both really like her. We have another nurse named Barbara with a very strong "Helga" accent as we call it, and she seems a bit more hardcore. We'll meet new nurses tonight at 7 p.m... hoping for some more great ones. We also just met with Dr. Elliot, who is the specialist here at Banner Desert -OB Triage. He came in and discussed our condition again (vasa previa) and the dangers to it. He said because of how healthy I am, he doesn't forsee any bleeding to occur. Since this is my first pregnancy, that's why I didn't have to be admitted until 34 weeks. Patients that are in their 2nd or 3rd pregnancies get admitted at 28 weeks and are in the hospital for 2 months! Praise Jesus that didn't happen to us. He just gave us the confirmation of wanting to complete the c-section at 36 weeks, and not really any longer. I received both my steroid shots to help little P's lungs, and now we just wait. Here's a few pics from our room. We call it our little oasis-home away from home for 2 weeks.
As for being admitted, Jaris and I are trying to be as positive as we can. Our room isn't the biggest, but we'll be making it home. Jaris is literally my rock, and has kept me very positive throughout all this. The nurses came in to complete an IV (I need it in case of an emergency and if they need a quick access point for medication.) Well let's just say that was NOT FUN!!! The nurses couldn't find a vein that was working for them, and stuck me not once, twice, or three times, but FOUR times. On the fourth try, they had to call an anesthesiologist to come and put the IV in my hand. It hurt like a you know what!! There was blood all over my hand, the sheets, his gloves, the nurses gloves etc. Poor Jaris had me squeeze his hand so hard because of the pressure going into my hand and the several seconds that it went numb. Pardon the blood, but here's a quick pic:
After all that was done and over, (they changed the sheets and cleaned me up) I was able to order room service from the cafeteria. The selection here at the hospital is pretty dang awesome! I kept it simple and ordered a turkey sandwich, fruit, and an ice tea. I plan on taking full advantage of all the different "stations" in the cafeteria (Mexican, Italian, Mongollan, and even a Salad bar). After I ate my food, we were able to stroll around the hospital and we went to the cafeteria to check it out. After that we walked around seeing the little chapel, the trains set in the courtyard, the gift shop, and the little activity center here in Antepartum. My lunch for the day:
Although these next 2 weeks may seem like FOREVER, we know that it's best for our sweet baby girl. We will get monitored 2-3 times a day and I will have an IV in me from here on out. Labor and Delivery is just across the hall, so if anything serious should occur, we were told they have amazing doctors on staff and can get baby girl out within 5 minutes. We are hoping that is not the case, but with all hospital stays, I'm sure doctors have to tell you the seriousness of issues. We look forward to any visitors these next two weeks, and although it may not be very fun for most, I know it will make Jaris' and my day to see new faces and bright smiles! Thank you for the continued prayers! Every day that baby girl is inside, the healthier she will be! Love to all!
